Chandrayaan had already done 95% of its tasks, says Isro chif

India’s first moon mission Chandrayaan-I, came to an abrupt end early on Saturday and it was slated to be a two year mission , Isro chairman Madhavan Nair said that nearly 95% of Chandrayaan ‘s scientific goals had already been accomplished in less than a year. ISRO's Deep Space Network near Bangalore received the data from the spacecraft up to 0025 hours after which it lost contact with earth.
Having completed bulk of the scientific mission ,Isro chief spokesperson S Satish said that even if Chandrayaan-I, had remained in orbit for another year, nothing much would have been gained. In the hostile lunar environment, It is impossible for a spacecraft to survive for long periods, “He said.
The spacecraft was launched in the moon's orbit from ISRO's Satish Dhawan Space Centre Sriharikota on October 22, 2008. We have lost contact with the spacecraft and the mission is over," Project Director of the Chandrayaan-1 mission M Annadurai said. Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) however claimed that the moon mission had achieved most of its objectives. Though there was no official word on the cause of the loss of contact, space experts, who declined to be identified, said it could be due to a power problem in the spacecraft being hit by a some space object. Chandrayaan-1 has done its job technically about 100%. Scientifically, it has done almost 90-95% of its job, "Mr Annadurai added.
Mission Chandrayaan-I’s ride has been a bumpy one in the last few months. There was an overheating problem necessitating the deactivation of some of the 11 payloads. Then on April 26th the star sensor started malfunctioning which affected the spacecraft’s orientation.

Shuttle Discovery blasts to complete off with bat stowaway

Shuttle Discovery blasts:
Today Space shuttle Discovery launched just before midnight Friday on a mission to the international space station. The animal was last seen clinging on the foam of the external tank of the space shuttle moments before the Discovery launched, officials said. The crew of seven astronauts includes one from Mexico and another from Sweden. One of those seven, Nicole Stott, will remain on the station as a flight engineer, while astronaut Timothy Kopra is to return home aboard the shuttle.
Shuttle Discovery safely completed a six-hour spacewalk outside the International Space Station on Thursday, installing a set of solar panels that will help the station handle twice as many crew members.
NASA officials had hoped the bat would fly away on its own, but admitted the bat probably died quickly during Discovery's climb into orbit. Also on board: The Leonardo logistics module, science experiments and the Combined Operational Load Bearing External Resistance Treadmill (COLBERT). Nasa Officials noticed the bat before shuttle's liftoff and brought in a wildlife expert to look at video images of it. The expert said it appeared to be a free-tailed bat that probably had a broken left wing and an injured right shoulder or wris. We're very proud of their work," said NASA spacewalk director Glenda Laws-Brown. "They were very efficient. I've watched several of these and this was a joy to watch.. The launch pads at the space center are near the Merritt Island National Wildlife Refuge, so NASA has sirens to scare away animals that get near the shuttles.
Colbert won an online poll conducted by NASA to name the newest space station compartment, but Colbert and the space agency compromised to give the moniker to the treadmill. The new compartment was given the name Tranquility.
The crew also worked Thursday to make sure members of the space station stay physically fit -- repairing a treadmill and exercise bicycle that had broken down, Alibaruho said.
Discovery, with its seven-member crew, lifted off from the Kennedy Space Center in Cape Canaveral, Florida, on Sunday. The launch originally was scheduled for last Wednesday, but was delayed after engineers discovered a leak in a hydrogen gas vent line. It was unclear whether its stowaway was still clinging to the shuttle.

Jaswant Singh blames Nehru, Patel for partition on Pak television

Jaswant Singh blames to Nehru and patel:
Bharatiya Janata Party leader Jaswant Singh has once again invited and controversy by blaming on India's first Prime Minister Dr.Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru for the partition of the Indian subcontinent in 1947. Jaswant Singh, a senior leader in the Bharatiya Janata Party, the main opposition party, has been expelled after writing a book praising Muhammad Ali Jinnah, the founder of the country's rival neighbour Pakistan. Mr Jinnah as a great man who has been misunderstood in India. The partition that separated Pakistan from India in 1947 remains a controversial issue in the region.
Today an interview with the Dawn News, Singh blamed Pandit Nehru and Sardar Vallabh Bhai Patel for the partition and creation of Pakistan. Ms. Singh's glowing assessment of Mr Jinnah, who is blamed by many Indians for unnecessarily dividing the subcontinent into nations based on religion, was unacceptable to many BJP leaders. Ms Singh said it was nothing short of double standard as Nehru himself talked of secularism while contributing to the country's division along with Sardar Patel on grounds of so called to the faith.
Ms Singh claimed that later Nehru had himself admitted of being responsible for the partition. It is worth mentioning here that Jaswant Singh's book Jinnah India-Partition-Independence' which saw him being expelled from the BJP after serving it for nearly 30 years has received an overwhelming response in Pakistan. A party spokesman said Mr Singh had been expelled because his book went against its all Indian party.BJP members were also angered by the book's criticism of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, India's first home minister and a leading figure in the struggle to win independence from colonial rule.

The book quotes Singh as saying that Jinnah did not win Pakistan, rather Nehru and Patel conceded Pakistan to Jinnah with the help of the British. Meanwhile, authorities have denied permission to Singh to visit Pakistan to launch his book. However, Singh's son Manvendra Singh said his father has not applied for a visa, and as far as he knew. Mr Advani, was almost destroyed when he made favourable comments about Pakistan's first national leader in 2005. He also rejected reports that there was a different to the Pakistan edition of the book.

Multi-Vehicle Crash Kills Three People in Fresno in California

Multi-Vehicle Crash Kills Three People:

The last week that a drunk driver became a drunk wrong-way driver in Fresno, California. A man single-handedly caused a three-car accident when he began driving down the wrong side of road. Without warning, he hit an oncoming Ford, which then crashed into an unsuspecting Honda. The multi-car collision killed three people and injured at least five, including the drunk driver himself. Police in Fresno arrested him just days after the crash for suspicion of vehicular manslaughter and felony DUI charges. If you are injured in Fresno, consider contacting a Fresno Auto Accident Lawyer to help you obtain the reimbursement you require.
Three passengers in two separate vehicles were killed in this deadly crash caused by a drunk driver going the wrong way on the road. To make circumstances even worse, all of the deceased victims were relatively young. One was a woman aged a mere 21-years old. Another was a young man no older than 20, and the last victim was a 14-years old girl. Drivers and passengers from both the Ford and the Honda received minor to severe injuries, and the drunk driver who caused the accident received injuries as well. In comparison to the injuries of the other parties, however, the wounds of the drunk driver were minimal.
Although the accidents that occur as a result of drivers going the wrong way on the road are minimal in comparison to drunk driving, reckless driving, and speeding accidents, they still occur often enough to kill hundreds of people every year. Wrong-way car accidents are almost always caused by drivers not paying enough attention to the road and their surroundings. In the case of this Fresno wrong-way accident, the influence of alcohol likely caused the man’s judgment to be skewed and impaired, leading to his reckless driving, the unwelcome injuries incurred by virtually every victim, and the death of three young people.
Wrong-way car accidents are not always the fault of the driver going the wrong way on the road. There have been many instances where county and city roads signs were unclear, confusing, and even misleading, drawing drivers into the wrong lane of traffic and into a head-on collision with oncoming vehicles. This is one of the most dangerous aspects of wrong-way
car accidents. Even though they don’t occur often, they have a heavy potential for destruction because of the likelihood of a head-on collision.
cases such as these, county or city governments are often to blame for faulty placement of road signs or the lack of road signs entirely.

If the accident is the fault of another driver’s negligence, your lawyer will fight to ensure that you receive retribution from that person to cover any medical costs you may have incurred or, in the regrettable circumstance that death occurs, the funeral costs. You can also receive compensation for the pain and suffering you incurred or a loved one was forced to face as a result of the injuries.

South Korea launches first rocket

South Korea is launches of first rocket and headed for orbit to Launch Vehicle. One was launched from the Nero Space Center on the southern coast and first rocket has blasted off into space Tuesday following an aborted attempt last week and just months after its rival North Korea drew international ire for its own launch. The launch of the two-stage Nero rocket could boost the country's space ambition but the North warned it would keep a close eye on the international response to Seoul's launch. The rocket, built with Russian help, was carrying a domestically built satellite aimed at observing the atmosphere and ocean. The Korean officials hope the rocket will boost the country's aim to become a regional space power, along with China, Japan and India. North Korea, however, has warned it would "closely watch" how the U.S. and other neighboring countries respond to the South's launch. Ocket it said was mounted with a satellite. The U.S., Japan and other nations condemned the launch as a test of ballistic missile technology since the same rocket can be mounted with a warhead.
A series of delays kept the rocket and its satellite payload earthbound, including a technical glitch that halted Wednesday's countdown less than eight minutes before blastoff. This U.N. Security Council subsequently slapped Pyongyang with sanctions, calling the launch a violation of resolutions banning it from conducting missile-related activity. In recent weeks, the North has significantly softened its stance toward the South, freeing a South Korean worker held there for more than four months, agreeing to lift restrictions on border crossings and pledging to resume joint projects and the reunion of families separated during the Korean War.
South Korea's first launch of a rocket from its own territory. Since 1992, it has launched 11 satellites, all on foreign-made rockets sent from overseas sites.

with nations seeking to agree in December on a new international pact to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

China has chided Washington for policy failings exposed by the financial meltdown, has resisted U.S. calls to pressure Pyongyang with tougher sanctions, and said rich countries must lead the way in greenhouse gas emissions cuts.

There has never been a more important period for the United States and China to get along time it said to Huntsman. The world today more than ever before relies too much on a healthy and stable U.S.and China relationship. Now days we are know that there good

BJP ejects leader over Pakistan founder praise

INDIA'S Hindu nationalist movement has been thrown into disarray by the publication of a book about a Muslim leader who died more than 60 years ago.

Jaswant Singh is bone of 3 January 1938. He is an Indian politician and member of parliament from Darjeeling parliamentary constituency. He is from the Indian State of Rajasthan and was an officer in the Indian Army in the 1960s and is an alumnus of Mayo College and the National Defence Academy (India), Khadakwasla. He served as Finance minister in the short-lived government of Atal Bihari Vajpayee goverment. He is one of the few Indian politicians to have been the Minister for Defence, Finance and External Affairs .He started the new government of Vajpayee, which lasted its full term, as the External Affairs Minister and later on switched his ministry to Finance with Yashwant Sinha. He was also the Defence Minister when George Fernandes was forced to resign after the Tehelka exposure.Jaswant Singh, a senior leader in the Bharatiya Janata Party, the main opposition party, has been expelled after writing a book praising Muhammad Ali Jinnah, the founder of the country's rival neighbour Pakistan. Mr Jinnah as a great man who has been misunderstood in India. The partition that separated Pakistan from India in 1947 remains a controversial issue in the region. Mr Patel is widely regarded as a national hero.Jaswant Singh, 71, was one of the BJP's top parliamentary performers, having served as foreign minister and finance minister in the former BJP government, which held power from 1998 to 2004. He joins several other high-profile former BJP leaders who have been kicked out on disciplinary grounds. The BJP has been dogged by infighting since its surprisingly bad showing at the polls. Mr Singh's expulsion also comes amid lingering leadership tension. The party's boss, L.K. Advani, 81, is not expected to lead the party to the next election, but a new leadership candidate with support across the party is yet to emerge. It is not the first time that praising Jinnah has landed a BJP leader in trouble but it is first time highlighted in India. The political career of its leader, Mr Advani, was almost destroyed when he made favourable comments about Pakistan's first national leader in 2005.

US incident embarrassing but not a big deal, says Shah Rukh

Days after being detained and questioned for two hours by the US immigration authorities at Newark airport, Bollywood star Shah Rukh Khan on Tuesday sought to clear the air by stating that while it had been an embarrassing incident, it had certainly been blown out of proportion.

Khan, on his return from the US, was welcomed by a huge crowd of fans and media at the airport. He then proceeded to his Bandra residence, Mannat, where he spoke to the media.

At the news conference, the actor gave a detailed description of what he went through in those two hours. “I was with my colleagues. Their fingerprints were taken, but when it was my turn they told me that I would be escorted elsewhere by someone.”

Khan went along to find himself in a room full of Indian and Pakistani nationals who were waiting to be questioned. He said his papers were in order and that he understood there were procedures to be followed by every country. But what perturbed him the most, he said, was that it seemed the authorities were not following the procedures as they did not take his fingerprints or retina scan.

Human Rights Activists Hold Candlelight Vigil in Northern India

Human rights activists and intellectuals from India and Pakistan hold a candlelight vigil at the India-Pakistan Wagah border in India's northern Punjab state.

The hour-long midnight vigil on August 14-15 coincided with the 62nd Independence Day celebrations of both countries.

The event was organized to spread the message of peace and harmony, especially after the terrorist attacks in Mumbai last year.

Participants carried candle lights and torches as they marched to the Wagah check post shouting slogans of "Long Live India-Pakistan Friendship.”

Pakistani activist Iqbal Haider says Kasab, the only living gunman captured during the Mumbai carnage, was not just India's enemy but an enemy of Pakistan as well.

"Speech of Prime Minister’s on 61st Independence Day"

"My dear countrymen, brothers, sisters and dear children.
Today we celebrate the 60th anniversary of our Independence. My greetings to you all on this day of national celebration.

Today we take special pride in saluting our beloved tricolor. Let us recall with pride the great sacrifice of our freedom fighters, whose undying love for India secured us our freedom.

On this happy occasion join me in saluting the hard work of all our citizens who have, over these 60 years, helped build a new India. Let us bow our head in memory of all those brave jawans and all our brave citizens who have sacrificed their lives for the cause of our unity, integrity and progress.

Sixty years ago the people of India began a new journey as a free nation, inspired by the message and vision of Mahatma Gandhi. But Gandhiji’s dream of a free India would only be fully realized when we banish poverty from our midst.

An India that is united despite its many diversities.

An India that is not divided by caste, creed or gender.

An India in which the creativity and enterprise of every citizen can find its full and free expression.
We need to do much more to generate and distribute more power, more efficiently. Everyone should get good quality power at affordable prices. I appeal to state governments to take this matter seriously as a weak power situation can become a handicap in industrialization and job-creation.

This vision of India is our proud inheritance from our national movement. We are committed to fully realizing it. We have worked hard to translate this vision into reality, through legislative action, new programmes and new policies. Towards this end we have vastly increased fiscal support to social and human development.

Today, when I look back, I can say with some satisfaction that we are undoubtedly moving forward in the right direction. We have been slow in taking some steps; we have dithered at times, and stumbled some times. We have had success on some fronts, and setbacks on some others.

India wants to have good relations with all the countries of the world. Big and small. Countries of the East and the West, the North and the South. Today, we enjoy good relations with all major powers and all developing countries. We have emerged as a bridge between the many extremes of the world. Our composite culture is living proof of the possibility of a confluence of civilizations. India will always be a nation bridging the many global divides.

I also want our young people to actively associate themselves with a “National Campaign for Cleanliness” in our neighbourhoods, in public places and markets, in villages and slums. Let us all take that one extra step to ensure that we live in clean and healthy surroundings. Each one of us can make a difference by practicing what we preach. As Gandhiji used to say, we must be the change we want to see.

India wants to live in a neighbourhood of peace and prosperity. I assure all our neighbours that we in India want peace and the best of relations with all of them. I sincerely believe that in the prosperity and well-being of our neighbours lies the key to our own security and progress.
We are a young nation. More importantly, we are a nation of young people. Once unleashed, the energy of our youth will drive India onto a new growth path. I assure you that for each one of you, and for our country, the best is yet to come.

We must have faith in our strength and confidence in our capabilities. Each of us have our individual identities. However, every citizen must recognize that we are Indians first and last. We fritter away our time on petty issues and pointless personal differences. I urge all political parties, all political and social leaders to resist the temptation to divide people along narrow, sectarian lines. Our strength is in our unity, despite our diversity. It is that unity which gave us our Independence. It is that unity that gives us our strength as a nation.

This was the dream of our founding fathers. This was the vision of our Constitution. We should not move away from this vision, and must face the future with courage. However, as Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru said from these ramparts nearly sixty years ago, “laws and constitutions do not by themselves make a country great. It is the enthusiasm, energy and constant effort of a people that make it a great nation.”

Let us all come together and work resolutely for the welfare of our people and for the development of our nation.

Jai Hind!”

Indian Freedom Fighters

Free India’ we are know that all Indian was a dream to all Indians under the British rule. Everyone during that rule fought in some way or the other with a common aim of ending British and other colonial authorities in India. After a century of revolutions, struggle, blood shedding, battles and sacrifices, India finally achieved independence on August 15, 1947.

India was free in 1947 from the British Empire but the country lost many men and women who were filled with undaunted courage and spirit of patriotism. Today, they are known as freedom fighters because they sacrificed their lives for their motherland.
There are endless number of men and women other than the above list who daringly fought for India’s freedom.

Indian Freedom Fighters

How can careful of Swine flu

If you are the caregiver:
* Avoid being face-to-face with the sick person.
* When holding small children who are sick, place their chin on your shoulder so that they will not cough in your face.
* Clean your hands with soap and water or use an alcohol-based hand rub after you touch the sick person or handle used tissues, or laundry.
* Talk to your Doctor about taking antiviral medication to prevent the caregiver from getting the flu.
* Monitor yourself and household members for flu symptoms and the local H1N1 Command Center if the symptoms occur.
Care for other members at home:
• The sick person should not have visitors other than caregivers. A phone call is safer than a visit.
• If possible, have only one adult in the home take care of the sick person.
• Avoid having pregnant women care for the sick person. (Pregnant women are at increased risk of influenza-related complications and immunity can be suppressed during pregnancy).
• All persons in the household should clean their hands with soap and water or an alcohol-based hand rub frequently, including after every contact with the sick person or the person’s room or bathroom.
• Use paper towels for drying hands after hand washing or dedicate cloth towels to each person in the household. For example, have different colored towels for each person.
• If possible, consideration should be given to maintaining good ventilation in shared household areas (e.g., keeping windows open in restrooms, kitchen, bathroom, etc.).

Rain crisis: India’s season of despair

The most telling evidence of farmer distress in Karnera village near Ballabhgarh town of Haryana comes not from its withering paddy fields but

From inside a retail store. It’s past lunchtime and Mahavir Tyagi appears to be taking an afternoon siesta in his well-stocked seed and fertilizer shop. Not that this 30-something retailer and farmer needs any rest. It’s just that he hardly has any work this year.
‘‘Around this time in past years, I would be up to my neck in work, supplying inputs to farmers who come from surrounding villages. My daily sales would be in the range of Rs 70,000-80,000. This year, on lucky days, sales touch Rs 20,000,’’ says Tyagi.

‘‘Why would farmers need fertilizers when their crops aren’t getting water?’’ he asks rhetorically.
The shopkeeper himself owns 22 acres of land in this Tyagi-dominated village next to the Aravalis. Six of the 18 acres of paddy he had sown has been lost. ‘‘In the 10 years I’ve been farming, I’ve never seen such a dry spell. Around 60% of the paddy village farmers had sown is gone. Even the rest is in danger of withering if it doesn’t rain soon,’’ he says.

The next 8-10 days, Tyagi says, will be crucial. ‘‘The paddy crop is almost gone. If rains don’t come very soon, even the fodder crop would be destroyed. That will badly hit the health of cattle, milk prices and farmer’s livelihoods. Already, fodder rates are as high as Rs 5/kg. If it gets any worse, farmers wouldn’t be able to feed their livestock.’’

The village is fed by a canal that brings Yamuna water to the fields. Though the canal currently has enough flow, now that Uttarakhand has had some rains, it can water less than 50% of the village farms. The rest have to rely on underground water, which hardly suffices for a paddy crop when the ground is bone dry.
Extrapolate Karnera’s woes and you get a picture of the crisis facing most of north India. As of August 5, the region had a 40% rainfall deficit. In many districts, though, the shortfall ranged from 60% to 80%. With the El Nino phenomenon — that depresses the monsoon in India — likely to take effect by early September, the outlook for the next few weeks appears bleak as well.

PM tells Azad: Form doctors' panel on swine flu

NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Sunday told health minister Ghulam Nabi Azad to form a team of doctors to provide "correct
information" to the people regarding swine flu that has claimed four lives in India.

"The prime minister has asked the health minister to set up a panel of doctors that will give correct information to the public on swine flu," an official in the Prime Minister's Office (PMO) said.

Manmohan Singh said the panel should also provide proper information to the media so that there are no misconceptions.

The official said the minister telephoned the prime minister Sunday morning to update him about the steps being taken to tackle the virus.

"The health minister assured the prime minister that there is sufficient stock of Tamiflu and people detected with the virus have been quarantined," the official said.

"The prime minister has also asked the health minister that he should be informed immediately if there is any change in the situation," he said.

According to the official, the prime minister had discussed with Azad the swine flu situation at Friday's cabinet meeting.

The prime minister had earlier instructed that there be no shortage of Tamiflu.

Azad has also been told to ensure that the union health secretary meets all state health secretaries and keep the cabinet secretary updated.

A school teacher from a village near Pune and a non-resident Indian (NRI) man who had flown from the US to Ahmedabad died of swine flu Sunday.

These follow the deaths of a woman in Mumbai Saturday and of a 14-year-old girl in Pune on Aug 3.

India has reported over 780 cases, of which nearly 500 patients have been cured. The most badly hit states are Delhi and Maharashtra. .
